Q: Do I need to audition?
A: No. All are welcome to Youth Choir regardless of experience. For the Chamber choir, we will initially rely on your own judgement. However, should numbers rise very quickly, we might need to introduce auditions at a later date as spaces are limited.
Q: Is this a church choir?
A: No. These are choirs open to all without any religious affiliation. However, there may be occasional pieces from the tradition of church music or songs relating to other faiths. If so, these will be performed respectfully with the aim of understanding the context and music, but not within any kind of worship setting.
Q: Do I have to pay extra for music?
A: No, all sheet music and resources are provided and included in the termly fee.
Q: Can I sing in both choirs?
A: Yes, if you are over 15 years old and have the relevant singing experience, you are welcome to join both choirs.
Q: How experienced do I need to be to join the Chamber Choir?
A: You should have been singing for a few years, either in choirs or in singing lessons, so that you know a bit more about how to use your voice. If you know how to read music it will be easier for you to learn your part, but if not, you will still be able to pick it up. For comparison, this would be roughly equivalent to a Grade 5 standard.
Q: Are there any rules I need to follow once I am in rehearsal?
A: Yes, there are. Please have a read of Our expectations
Q: I have a disability. Can I still join?
A: Absolutely! Just get in touch with us to discuss what you need to make our rehearsals and performances accessible to you.
Q: What does it cost?
A: Both choirs have the same fee: £20/term for anyone under 18 or still in school, £30/term for adults.
